Presented annually at the NETHJA Year-End Banquet to celebrate sportsmanship and dedication.
Open to members, coaches, and officials. Self-nominations are permitted. Deadline: October 1.
Nominations are reviewed and voted upon by the NETHJA Committee of Coaches & The Board of Directors.
Joe Meuleman Outstanding Volunteer Award
Purpose & Eligibility
Recognizing an individual who has made significant contributions of time, energy, and leadership. Riding status is not required.
Key Criteria
- Initiative and leadership in NETHJA activities
- Positive impact on the organization
- Spirit of teamwork and reliability
Relevant Life Rising Star Award
Purpose & Eligibility
The Relevant Life Rising Star Award is a $500 prize recognizing child and adult riders in their first two years of competition who demonstrate exceptional compassion for their horses, a strong work ethic, perseverance, sportsmanship, and a genuine love of the sport—regardless of whether they find themselves in the ribbons.
This special award celebrates the qualities that matter most in our equestrian community: kindness toward horses, dedication, perseverance, sportsmanship, horsemanship, and a passion for learning. It recognizes riders who understand that success in the show ring is about more than results—it is about the journey, the partnership between horse and rider, and the commitment to becoming a better equestrian.
The $500 prize is intended to provide tangible support to a developing rider as they continue pursuing their equestrian goals and help offset the expenses of the following show season. Most importantly, it is designed to encourage that rider to return to the show ring, continue learning, and build on their passion for the sport.
The Relevant Life Rising Star Award celebrates riders who embody the spirit of our equestrian community and recognizes that the qualities we develop along the way are just as important as the ribbons we take home.

Youth Rider of the Year Award
Purpose & Eligibility
For riders under 18 who demonstrate excellence in horsemanship and sportsmanship throughout the NETHJA circuit.
Key Criteria
- Sportsmanship in and out of the ring
- Exceptional horse care and horsemanship
- Respect for officials and fellow riders
Adult Rider of the Year Award
Purpose & Eligibility
For amateur riders (18+) who contribute positively to the community while showing dedication to personal improvement.
Key Criteria
- Support of fellow competitors
- Commitment to safe riding and training
- Consistent circuit participation
